Kikyou has heard that name before. Years ago she asked to investigate Sonny Griffin and was told never to say it again — the government had chosen to coexist with the real monster, and called that choice its justice. So she asks Yu-ri what he is to the man. Nothing, he lies, and offers a reason instead: TOKYO once had an age of glory people called the Flower, and he means to take it back. She has no patience for it. Power is a rotten fruit and the maggots on it all arrive carrying a cause, and a cause is only an excuse for appetite. Do not talk to her about justice. She will hear his ambition out and take the Fusebeast regardless, because nothing entitles him to swing it. Yu-ri apologises to Ten for the night, says he can feel the exhaustion through his palm, and swings to finish it — but the shape gives out. Kikyou reads the change as a prelude and goes for his arm, and Yu-ri stands over a Fusebeast that can no longer transform and tells it he would rather die than hand it over. It is not a weapon to him. It is the only one of its kind. And the rest of the episode is why. Ten years ago, falling from that cliff, a small boy was caught by a huge black flower, woke among the bones of everyone else TOKYO had discarded, and found the marten already waiting. It kept the rain off him, then the snow. It made him food out of bone. It was the reason he wanted to see the next day.
