Episode 21: THE RACKET | DURRUN by Aito Kitazaki

Episode 21

Episode 21: “THE RACKET” CHOFU’s entertainment district draws crowds from all over TOKYO — and where tourists flock, pickpockets thrive. This episode turns away from the yakuza to follow the outcasts of Tama Cemetery, a ruined district off-limits to visitors and linked to CHOFU only by a tunnel. Shiban outruns a stubborn rookie Carabiner with parkour flair, only to have his entire haul soaked up by a silent, stitch-grinned man of the Hiru-gumi. Back in the ruins, Buyo lays out their reality: with the Tousei-kai tightening security across CHOFU to honor its pact with the government, scraping by on theft and shakedowns may be a dead end — it is time to consider a new racket. His gaze lands on timid Shimii, the crew’s unlikely top earner, whose sudden windfall smells of a secret. When a bound, cackling drunk hauled in from CHOFU fixates on him, Shimii’s overloaded brain freezes, and a headlong sprint through the tunnel shakes loose the memory of exactly what he sold — and to whom — only yesterday. At the tunnel’s mouth, he collides with two travelers bound for Tama Cemetery: Soujun and Yu-ri.
