Episode 10

A tram pulls into its MACHIDA terminus carrying three officers of TW18. Captain Kikyou is still on the phone, dragging out her daughter’s love troubles while Usuzumi checks his pocket watch and Gen answers every question with a four-character idiom. When she finally hangs up, she leaves Usuzumi with a line that defines her: anyone who cannot cherish a single family member could never protect TOKYO. Across town, the fight is already over. Yu-ri watches routed GEJI-GUMI men rain out of the sky and catches a dazed Gejirow cursing the Fuser who beat them — and knows Soujun cannot stay hidden much longer. The street sends him two years back, to Ojiki warning him what the Ash of Nue really is: a thing that turns people into monsters, that hands over money, influence and absolute power, and then devours whoever holds it. Do not touch it, Ojiki told him. In the rubble, Soujun is alive, only out of fuel, and Alice and Utaki drag him off to DOUDOU to be patched up. Between the bickering comes the admission Yu-ri has been carrying: he went after the Ash of Nue himself, with Alice’s help, to become a Fuser. He swears the dark will not swallow him. Ojiki, the closest thing he has to a parent, has heard that promise before. As for the wrecked town, Utaki claims the blame and Ojiki simply vows to erase every trace of it. Then Ten bristles at his side. Twenty figures are closing on MACHIDA, and TW18 steps into the street with a question for Yu-ri.
