Ojiki explains what has just walked up to them. TW18, the TOKYO-wide Investigation Bureau, cross zone lines to take down the worst organisations in the city, are called the government’s watchdogs by the underworld, and are reckoned a match for Fusers. Kikyou wants three things: who wrecked the town, where he went, and what Yu-ri is doing out here at this hour. Yu-ri plays a bystander, and when the sword draws her eye he calls it his father’s replica, carried for protection. Ojiki tells him to keep it that way, because drawing Ten means fighting all three at once, and the job tonight is to get the Fuser out quietly. Then TW18 moves — not, as Yu-ri assumes, because they have spotted Soujun, but because the person carrying him is Alice, the SHINJUKU information broker with a warrant to her name. Yu-ri draws anyway. Usuzumi remarks that it is very good work for a replica. He takes Yu-ri himself and sends Gen after the others, and Ojiki buys them a head start with his nose hairs while Utaki, naming Gen the Beard on sight, screams about his face. In the lull Yu-ri counts his losses: a plan for the Ash of Nue that failed, a tourist and a country Fuser he never wanted, and an ambition he has not abandoned. He hands the siblings to Ojiki, throws him bodily after them, and turns back to a swordsman who says a blade cannot beat him.
